10 March 2010 BGLOBAL PLC ("Bglobal" or the "Company" or the "Group") Contract Wins and Trading Update Bglobal plc (AIM:BGBL), the leading UK smart metering and energy data company, announces an update on trading and recent contract wins.
npower
The Company is delighted to announce that it has reached agreement with major UK energy supplier npower to provide smart meters and installation services to its business customers valued at almost £7million over the next 12 months. Additionally the Group will provide new recurring data services to npower valued at approximately £0.6million per annum.
Bglobal has installed and reads in excess of 25,000 business customer meters for npower to date under a preferred supplier framework contract, nearly 20,000 of which have been installed during the current financial year.
British Gas
Bglobal is to help British Gas install real-time display energy meters in up to 23,000 schools in England.
Provision of the meters is being managed by Partnership for Schools, the Government's delivery agency for capital projects in schools, and is free to the schools. The project is being supported by the British Gas Generation Green educational programme which has created a range of learning resources, including lesson plans, which are specifically designed to be used alongside the 'dashboard' displays.
The energy display meters will provide an accurate real-time reading of how much electricity a school is consuming through their main electrical supply. Schools will be able to use this data to inform decisions about how to make energy savings and encourage long term behavioural change with the aim of embedding sustainability throughout the school curriculum.
Schools account for around two per cent of UK green house gas emissions, with 9.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emitted annually by schools in England. The energy display meters, which are provided by British Gas and will be installed by Bglobal over the next 12 to 24 months, are expected to help reduce consumption by up to 10-15 per cent, around one million tonnes of carbon dioxide, and it is estimated that it will save an average 900-pupil secondary school more than £3,000 a year on fuel bills alone. The first meters have already been installed by Bglobal in schools in Berkshire and Middlesex and approximately 23,000 schools are eligible to apply for installations with up to 12,000 expected to benefit this year. Recent Trading The Company's nationwide installation programme continues to recover from disruption caused by freezing weather conditions in December and early January and smart meter installations performed across the UK by Bglobal during February reached almost 4,200.
The Company also continues to see growth in winning direct customer contracts. Recent contracts for smart metering and related data services have been placed by the National Blood Transfusion Service, Aviva, Apcoa Parking, Dorset Fire Brigade, Greater Manchester Police, Manchester Metropolitan University and Transport for London.
Tony Barnes, Chief Executive of Bglobal, said: "Forward-thinking energy supply companies are putting smart metering at the heart of their commercial and industrial customer programmes. This is clearly demonstrated by npower's push in the business sector and we are delighted to be continuing to support their plans with our end-to-end service."
"We are pleased to support British Gas and the Government in the ambition of putting a smart meter into every school in the UK. We have no doubt that Bglobal's installation of British Gas meters in schools nationwide will help children gain an understanding of how they can tackle environmental issues and make a difference."
"With sizable agreements in place to install meters and provide data services for major energy supply customers for the year ahead and with our operational performance demonstrating renewed growth we are confident of our position as we move towards our new financial year."
